LaLa Land Rulez!

Los Angeles county is the most ethnically diverse county in the U.S. The population is 70% ‘minority’ nowadays. This means more than just a lot of good food, it means many cultures influencing each other. From that ferment arises new ways of looking at things, new ways of thinking and new ways of living. A bit messy at times yes but dammed exciting all the same.

I haven't seen Bowling For Columbine (I knew it was just going to make me angry) but didn't Charlton Heston say racial diversity in communities was the cause of violence? I hope I'm wrong about that and that he's not really that stupid, because it really seems to be poverty that causes prejudice and violence, along with ignorance. It may be naïve to think this, but I believe that when people of diverse backgrounds mix it does more to end prejudice by giving them a chance to get to know each other. And good food is definitely a benefit of diversity. Even though it ain't Los Angeles I love the fact that where I live there's been an explosion of Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and other restaurants in my town. The food listings in the local paper even have a category for Ethiopian restaurants. I'd never have imagined Nashville could support one Ethiopian restaurant, much less several!

Good for Nashville, Ethiopian is a wonderful cuisine.

I think you are right that the mixing of people with diverse backgrounds does much to end prejudice. It's much easier to foment hate toward a group if few people have direct knowledge of them. There is a reason for segregation and ghettos, to isolate the out group so few would actually know them. It makes it much easier to spread lies about them.
