Late Night Musings Continued

Still tired after a very mixed day. Goldman Sachs had a huge profits of just over $13 billion with nearly half being earmarked for bonuses. This is the firm whose shoddy practices and unmitigated greed did more than any other single entity to cause the economic meltdown. When you’ve bought and paid for both political parties you don’t have to worry about things like accountability.

Speaking of accountability it seems you can run your own death squad, order people tortured and illegally spy on the whole country with impunity if you’re the Vice President. I know I’m being bad as there’s supposed to be no looking back.

Late Night Musings

Arioch but I’m tired. There is a down side to all this modern connectivity; you can wind up working almost 24/7. At the very least you can be on call all the time. On the real plus side with out the Internet and such like I couldn’t work from home. Also I wouldn’t have any contact with other queers at all. So all in all I’m glad of pervasive connectivity.

Appalling Ignorance

Another Trans-woman was murdered, LaTeisha Green, and now her trial is starting. Her family called for the passage of federal hate crimes protection for transgender people. This was reported on Syracuse.com. The comments on the story are the usual depressing mixture of ignorance, white male privilege and transphobia. It’s sad and depressing that her family now has to try and educate the public yet again to the reality of our lives. It’s frustrating that yet again we seem to be running into a wall of willful ignorance.

My deepest sympathy to her family, may justice be done.

Atheist Quote Of A Random Day

A continuing feature of this blog brought to you by just another atheist

Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes. Fear is the basis of the whole thing -- fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand - Bertrand Russell

The Meaning Of Life

There is none but what we give it. There is no grand design imposed from above as much as we might want one. The universe is blindly indifferent to us and Homo sapiens will go extinct eventually just like every other species. So let’s build a better world for us all. We can do this but we must do it ourselves and it won’t be easy. Because really what’s so funny about peace, love and understanding?

Yet Another Quick One Before I Sleep

Arioch but I’m a disorganized wreck. I lieu of a real post here is this, class and race still rule the day here in the U.S. Palin’s appeal is class based, the working and lower middle classes who feel oppressed by the elites. That Palin would be a bought and paid for puppet of the economic elites is beside the point. As for racism just take a look at Fox News or closer to home how the white gay establishment leapt at the chance to blame blacks for the passage of proposition 8. What about queer rights? We have been a distraction and a scapegoat for the Republican party. We are one of the wedges they used to split socially conservative working class voters of from the Democratic coalition to help elect brain dead tools like Reagan and Bush. That we are fighting for our lives is irrelevant to the power politics both parties play.

Another Quick One Before I Sleep

Obama is being just what I thought he was, a centrist Democrat tending towards the right. Hell some of Nixon’s proposed domestic policies were to the left of Obama’s. Yet the Republicans attack him as a communist, the heir to Lenin and Mao. Arioch only knows what would happen if a real leftist, even a moderate social democrat, ever got into a high elected office. They would all probably fall over dead from apoplexy.

Jesus' last words on the cross, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" hardly seem like the words of a man who planned it that way. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure there is something wrong here. - Donald Morgan

A Quick One Before I Sleep

A quick thought, being gender queer can be confusing even to we who are gender queer. It is incredibly difficult for transsexual men and women but at least they have a fixed goal to work toward. We are not quite so… well lucky is not the right word but sort of conveys the idea. There are times I will suddenly find myself operating in boy mode it can be quite jarring. More time is spent in girl mode even tough I never look it. Most of the time my gender identity is a cloud of androgynous possibility. It’s a confusing life but it’s very much mine.

Late Night Journey Into My Head (Again)

If I was organized I could do real posts but as it is lets poke around in the swamp that is my mind.

I’m tired, beat down through every fault of my own, I should be asleep right now. The problem is I am really a creature of the night, you know stay awake\all night sleep all day. To bad the world is not setup to accommodate that life cycle. So here I am robbing myself of sleep.

What I want to do is explore the limits of sensation, the intersection of pain and pleasure. More I want to disorder my senses by practice and ingestion of drugs. Ah but that is a no no according our wise government. Also psychedelics tend to lead people to question authority and that must be avoided at all costs. I have always wondered if all the cuts in access to higher education that started in the late 60’s and continue to this day were a reaction to finding that educating large numbers of people can lead to them to independent thought and to the questioning of authority. That is why free thought is such a bugbear among the religious, free thought and critical thinking lead to questioning the underlying assumptions of the social structure and the religion that supports it. Free thinkers might question if existing social structures, like ‘traditional’ marriage are always the best environment to live, love and rise children in. They might question if an economic system that was enriching 20% of the population while impoverishing the other 80% was really the best we can do. And those are questions that the power elite don’t want asked much less have any answers attempted.

My we have wandered far a field haven’t we? Well past time for me to sleep so goodnight all.

Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined, and imprisoned, yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites. - Thomas Jefferson

In Honor of the writer of the Declaration of Independence.

Thoughts On Being ‘Allowed To Exist’

By now you have probably heard slime ball Pennsylvania State Sen. John Eichelberger’s remark that ‘we are being allowed to exist’ when asked how gay men and women should be treated. We all know what he means, we should be grateful that we don’t face the death penalty for being who we are. Make no mistake there are theocrats out there that would love to impose the death penalty on us queers. Most, however, would be content to merely roll our rights back to before Stonewall where the worst we would face is prison and possible castration. Well to all those wonderful caring people like Sen. Eichelberger I say FUCK OFF AND DIE . A entirely natural death, no threats implied at all.

Men the like Eichelberger speak from a position of white male cis-gendered privilege. They are totally incapable of realizing that the only ‘special’ rights we want are the ones they take for granted.

We must conduct research and then accept the results. If they don't stand up to experimentation, Buddha's own words must be rejected. - Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, 1988
