Atheist Quote Of The Day

A continuing feature of this blog brought to you by just another atheist

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, & the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. – Karl Marx

Speaking Of Masks…

I have noticed how much the homo and trans bigots love to hide behind a mask of religion. One of the latest outbursts came from Colorado State Senator Scott Renfroe who quoted the passage from Leviticus calling for gay men to be stoned to death. Nice little incitement to murder isn’t it? But as he was ‘speaking god’s truth’ the theocrats over at World Nut daily think he’s peachy keen and think it’s terrible that we hasty queers are persecuting him by calling him out on his hate. Of course hiding behind their professed religion when called out on their hate is a standard tactic. They are not bigots, they are just preaching ‘god’s truth.’ I call bullshit; they are lying sacks of scum using the convenient façade of religion to justify their irrational hatred.

Further Rummaging In The Basement Of My Mind

I realized today that I’m in the same situation now as I was in in my late teens and early twenties. Then it was hiding my bisexuality from my parents because I knew it would bring a rupture with them. My mother cried why she worried I might be gay because I wasn’t dating. Now I fear transitioning because it would likely mean a final breakup of my marriage. There are differences, then I had no support at all. I couldn’t talk to my family or friends and was to timid to make use of the then new gay and lesbian centers. Now I have queer friends and a great therapist to help me work through this. Here’s hoping I can work through this. I am tired to the point of weariness of hiding the real me, whatever that is, from the world. I have worn a mask far to long.

Digging Around In The Basement Of My Mind

I have any number of questions on who I really am. How well do I know myself? Not well often seems to be the answer. I know, or think I know, that I am not a man though I am male bodied. I am comfortable in female clothes but I also know that even if I were females bodied I would tend to dress rather butch. But I am I really transgender? Maybe I am just a not overly flamboyant drag queen. On the other hand I do so want to alter my body with hormones to be more female in appearance, or do I? Am I using my current financial difficulties to avoid making a real commitment? I don’t think I am but I’m not sure. I need sleep now but I want to explore this more tomorrow.

Atheist Quote Of The Day

A continuing feature of this blog brought to you by just another atheist

I am an atheist, out and out. It took me a long time to say it. I've been an atheist for years and years, but somehow I felt it was intellectually unrespectable to say that one is an atheist, because it assumed knowledge that one didn't have. Somehow it was better to say one was a humanist or agnostic. I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly suspect that he doesn't that I don't want to waste my time. Atheist Quote Of The Day

An exciting new feature of this blog brought to you by just another atheist

I condemn false prophets, I condemn the effort to take away the power of rational decision, to drain people of their free will--and a hell of a lot of money in the bargain. Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain. – Gene Roddenberry

Another Reason I’m An Atheist

Because I don’t want to be even vaguely associated with the sort of religious bigotry being spouted by former LDS Bishop Utah Senator Chris Butters . He boasted ‘I've killed every one they've brought for eight years” after a civil rights bill for gay and transgendered Utahans was killed in committee. Then the hateful thug went on to say ‘It's the beginning of the end, Oh, it's worse than that. Sure. Sodom and Gomorrah was localized. This is worldwide.’ He also likened us to Muslim radicals and dubbed same-sex relationships ‘abominations.’ What a wonderful human being, a true paragon of religious virtue. Hateful, bigoted and ignorant but also typical of many in church leadership positions in all religions who justify their prejudice with their religion.

If I Were A Superhero

I would look something like this

Go create your own Hero

A Random Tuesday Night

A bunch of short takes on long topics.

Afghanistan has been called the ‘Graveyard of Empires” and Obama is sending more troops. We still don’t have as many troops as the Soviet Union had and two years after they gave up and withdrew there was no more Soviet Union. How long to people talking about the FUS, The Former United States?

Queers are the only thing the Republican Party has going for it anymore. Well the ‘Homosexual Agenda’ to be precise. The only success they had in 2008 was with the anti-marriage amendments. So expect to see lots more fear and hatred against queers in lieu of any actual policies that are relevant to the real world.

Global Guerrillas , an excellent blog which I can not recommend highly enough, talks often about open source warfare. This is in context of things like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were there are numerous small groups trying different tactics against the U.S. What works is adopted and improved by the other groups. This leads to quick adaptation to circumstances and a very hard to beat foe. I has occurred to me that this is just what we need in our fight for queer rights. This should be especially obvious after the failure of old style politics to beat Proposition Eight in California. If we leave it to groups like HRC or Equality California we will be in for a lot more failures. We need the same open source approach, lots for groups trying lots of things. We adopt what works and spread it quickly through out the movement. We will swarm and overwhelm the theocrats before they can respond.

Long Live The Revolution!

Depression

The economic kind, the kind that IMF officials and The Economist say we are in. Despite Republican bitching Obama’s economic stimulus package isn’t nearly big enough. He estimates it will create 4 million new jobs but we are losing jobs at the rate of 6 to 7 million a year just now. None of the nations that went through economic crises in the last 30 years that came out of did so with out breaking the power of the entrenched economic elites that had caused the problem. Here in the U.S. we are asking our elites to fix the problem they caused, it won’t work.

Unlike Rush and the other fat white boys of the Republican Party I do want Obama to succeed but fear he wont. He is too centrist, too cautious to make the bold moves that are needed if the U.S. is to have a chance. In this Obama reminds me of Gorbachev, a moderated reform who did too little too late; I fear that just as Gorbachev presided over the disintegration of the Soviet Union Obama may preside over the collapse of the U.S. Does that seem extreme? Maybe but the world economy is tanking with us right now. Much of the social safety net put in place under F.D.R. has been shredded over the last 25 years leaving a lot of people with no hope. As for me I hpe I’m wrong but only time will tell.

Nietzsche Speaks

He speaks to all of us fighting for the right to be ourselves,

Yes, my friends, regarding all the moral chatter of some about others it is time to feel nauseous! Sitting in moral judgment should offend our taste! Let us leave such chatter and such bad taste to those who have nothing else to do but drag the past a few steps further through time and who never live in the present,—which is to say the many, the great majority! We, however, want to become who we are,—the new, unique, incomparable ones, who give themselves their own laws, who create themselves! And to that end we must become the best learners and discoverers of everything that is lawful and necessary in the world: we must become physicists in order to be able to be creators in this sense,—while hitherto all valuations and ideals have been based on ignorance of physics or were constructed so as to contradict it. Therefore: long live physics! And even more so that which compels us to turn to physics,—our honesty!

Yes, we must become who we are. We must develop the theory of who we are by examining the facts of ourselves. We must be scrupulously honest in confronting our nature and in modifying the theory of us to the reality of us. So let us be bold in creating the science of us!

Straddling The Fence Can Be A Painful Experience

It’s not easy being Gender Queer, most people try to keep you in the little gender box assigned to you at birth. Even people who accept transgender people expect them to make a full transition to the ‘opposite’ gender and then stay in that box. Those of us who do not fit into any of the few neat gender boxes confuse people and generate a fair amount of hostility. This is true even among some other transgender people. It is especially hard on those of us who cannot pull off a fashionably androgynous look. We give off very confusing gender cues and gender confusion generates a lot of hostility. Even in the LGBTIQ community we face frequent hostility and misunderstanding. Still it’s who I am so I just keep on being me and trying to educate people as best I can.

R.I.P. Lux Interior.

Lux Interior, lead singer and songwriter for the Cramps, died yesterday from an existing hart condition. He founded the Cramps with his wife Poison Ivy.

The Cramps wee best described as Rockabilly from Hell. Their songs were short, sharp and twisted. Their stage show always verged on the obscene. They were twisted, demented, dangerous, sexual and always on fire with an unholy energy. All the things rock and roll should be. It’s hard to describe them so let me show you a couple of live performance clips.

As usual on the edge of an obscenity bust and crackling with raw sexual energy, Lux Interior will be very missed by many of us.

Common People

Alexander just blipped this cover by William Shatner and it got me thinking,

Thinking about all the pundits, most of who haven’t had a real job in years if ever, lecturing about ‘real americans’ or the average joe’. The only common people they ever meat are the ones who they stiff when they don’t tip them. The ones that really piss me off are the ones who only have a job because of who mommy or daddy are. That these arrogant motherfuckers dare lecture any body on what common people feel or want is the sickest joke of all. They aren’t telling anyone what common people think; they are trying to tell common people what to think. Well I say fuck’m, eat the rich – out of the palace a into the ditch

Midnight Randomness

It’s after midnight and I should real be asleep but the mind runs on. So a little exploring seems like a good thing. Perhaps some thoughts on my complete lack of coherent thoughts, really nothing seems to come to mind. Oh bits and pieces do, things like the stupidity of our Imperial overreach which Obama seems determined to continue in Afghanistan. Or the whining of people like ‘Porno’ Pete LaBarbera when called out on being hateful bigots. We queers are so mean to them when all they want to do is deny us any legal protections at all. Or the hysteria that any deviation from the current narrow gender norms seems to bring out in people, hysteria that leads to our deaths all too often. But there is not enough coherence to do justice to any of these topics right now so to bed.
