Musical Taste

Is a very individualistic thing, my best friend, Alexander, for instance likes Frank Sinatra who bores me to tears. He also likes Kaki King, who I’ll admit is talented but to me uninteresting, but se for yourself;

Who do I like? Well I am a hopeless rocker so….

Things like AC/DC’s Back in Black or Love Bites by Judas Priest

Or a true god of rock

Iggy Pop

Hey I didn’t say it was good taste, but it is what I like

Goodbye to George Carlin a Personal Hero

George Carlin died Sunday and I will miss him greatly. He was a personal hero who used his sharp wit to question convention and force you to think. He was a social gadfly in the great tradition of Voltaire and H.L. Mencken. His rejection of religion helped shape my own atheism so I leave you with this most excellent routine;

Abiogenesis

A favorite argument of creationists and IDiots is that evolution does not explain how life got started. Really no shit Sherlock, Evolution is about how life develops after it gets started. For a neat overview of how it might have gotten started look at this neat video that summarizes the work of Jack Szostak

Well not much but sometimes it's interesting. Like the notice of AgonsTees online store. Some very cool t-shirt designs, one of my favorites is the Science Is Cool t-shirt. Any way pop on over and check them out, apparently they are planing to unleash a whole bunch more designs by August. Collect them all and annoy your local theocrat.

Why we need laws on gender identity and presentation

A cisgendered woman had the effrontery to dress like a man so she got kicked out of the woman’s restroom and the building at The Beverly Hills Hotel. For good measure one of the three security guards who forced here to leave called her an ‘it’. Even sadder is that we have laws against this sort of bigotry here in California. The only good news is Songwriter Tanya White has hired Gloria Allred to represent her. She doesn’t want any money just an apology and a change of hotel policy.

Here is a Local ABC News report on this.

I Monster

To the Dobson’s, LaBarbera’s and Kern’s of the world I am a monster because I do want to destroy their ‘traditional’ definition of marriage and family. I want far more inclusive definitions of both, definitions that are expansive enough to include all the wonderful and loving queer families that I know of. Families that the theocrats would condemn as evil and sinful, well fuck them and the horse they road in on. I want family to include any loving committed group of people who love and support each other.

I also want to destroy their definition of morality because it is based on hate, exclusion and intolerance. Their morality helped murder 15-year-old Lawrence King. I want a morality based in love and reducing peoples suffering, not reveling in it because they are ‘sinners’.

So yes for the theocrats I am a monster because want to sweep their narrow bigoted world view of the face of the earth.

No stays, full speed ahead

Well it is official, the California Supreme Court has refused the theocrats request to stay it’s decision for marriage equality from going into effect June 17.;

San Francisco-The California Supreme Court today filed an order in the Marriage Cases (S147999; decision filed May 15, 2008), denying requests to stay its decision until after the November 2008 election and denying petitions for rehearing.
The rehearing petitions were denied by a 4-3 vote. Chief Justice Ronald George, and Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar, and Carlos Moreno voted to deny rehearing. Justices Marvin Baxter, Ming Chin, and Carol Corrigan would have granted rehearing.
The order further specified that the decision of the court filed on May 15, 2008, will become final on June 16, 2008, at 5 p.m.

This is huge on several fronts, one it means lots of married same sex couples by November. That makes it much more difficult for the theocrats to demonize these marriages. It also makes it harder to claim they are somehow ‘destroying’ marriage. Two it gives us a nice argument to use against the anti-marriage amendment, what about all the marriages that have already been preformed? Are you just going to rip them apart? Hopefully these developments will push us over the top in November.

It’s going to be a hard fight got to Equality For All and sign up now.
